The glacier, 60 meters high, 5 km wide and 30 km long, is located in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the third concentration of the world's largest after polar ice. It is slow and steady progress towards the mainland, a unique feature that dammed the flow of water between the north and south arm of Lake Argentino like a dam. At first the water is filtered through a small subglacial channel, which is enlarged by the fusion of the tunnel walls and the basal floating ice. Water pressure continues to erode the tunnel quickly enlarged by falling ice flakes huge detached from their vault and the water begins to move from Lake Rico to the Icebergs channel. These pressures are to crack the glacier to form the arc that ends up collapsing in a stunning show.
